Suicide is so difficult to understand and to discuss. Having had a very close family member commit suicide, I know firsthand how devastating it is to everyone involved.
Mental health is critical to our overall health and is as important as physical health. Possibly more. Many don’t have a problem putting a plan in place to change their diet or exercise- but when confronted with depression, anxiety or other mental struggles, we don’t know where to turn or who to trust.
If you are having suicidal thoughts or just having a hard time coping with day to day existence, you need to let someone know. You are not alone. One in five people in WNY are living with a mental health diagnosis. Share your story and let your voice be heard. Every struggle is different. The National Suicide Prevention phone number is 1-800-273-8255. Everyone can help prevent suicide. Talk, listen, take action. We are all in this together and are there to help each other. Please raise your hand and let someone know. Please. And thank you.
